Story
O is a local mother, Cafe Mutton line cook, and all around wonderful person. She has lived in Hudson for four years with her 7 year old child; they came to the US after fleeing life-threatening gang violence in El Salvador in hopes of building a new life and recovering from the violence and trauma they faced together. Because of the administration’s refusal to respect its own immigration policies, O and her child are now facing the threat of removal and deportation.
We have collectively spent many hours seeking pro bono or low fee legal services– as you can imagine, the waitlists are long right now, and O’s threat of removal is now. So we have decided to support O and her child in hiring a private lawyer– it’s her only option.
O’s son is a vibrant, sweet boy in second grade who is a master at building lego houses that keep the “bad guys” out. He speaks only English, and because of serious physical trauma he faced at the hands of the gang in El Salvador, his speech is only about 50% legible. He has said many times that he wants to stay, and that he fears leaving his community and school. One aspect of helping them stay in the area is for O to continue to seek speech services for her child that will hopefully, someday, allow him to be fully understood. He has so much to say and we want him to be heard.
This is highly time sensitive; please consider helping us help this beautiful local family. If you’ve been frozen by seeing all that’s playing out for immigrants in this country, this is a clear and tangible way you can act.
Please help.
